Irene S. Muzychka, Q.C.
Irene is a partner with Curtis Dawe. She is a member of the Law Society of Newfoundland and Labrador and a member of the Canadian Bar Association. She holds a B. Comm. (Hons) from Memorial University of Newfoundland and an LL.B from The University of New Brunswick. She was called to the bar in 1988.
Irene has over 30 years of litigation experience in a range of practice areas including the defence of insurance actions, defence of medical malpractice claims, municipal matters and general litigation. She also served as co-counsel to the Commission of Inquiry respecting the Muskrat Falls Project in 2019/2020.
Awards and Recognition:
- Appointed Queen’s Counsel in 2013.
- Irene has a “BV Distinguished” Martindale-Hubbell Peer Review Rating, a widely respected mark of achievement.
- Irene has been recognized by her peers as “Best Lawyer” for the years 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021 in the areas of Medical Negligence and Professional Malpractice Law, Insurance Law and Municipal Law.
Outside the Firm:
Irene served 8 years as a Bencher of the Law Society and as President in 2009-2010. She is now an Honourary Bencher of the Law Society.
She also contributes to the legal profession as a presenter in the Civil Litigation Section of the Law Society’s Bar Admission Course, and as a presenter in Seminars and Lectures in the area of Health and Insurance Law.
In her community efforts, Irene is a director and past Chair of the Rising Tide Theatre Association, a popular and well-known Newfoundland theatrical group.
