Sonya joined the firm as an Articling Student in the summer of 2020 and anticipates to be called to the Newfoundland and Labrador Bar as a Barrister and Solicitor in February, 2022. She received a Bachelor of Business Administration from Memorial University (2017) and a Juris Doctor from the University of New Brunswick (2021).
Sonya has a special interest in Family Law, Medical Malpractice Defence, Personal Injury, and Wills and Estates. In her Family Law practice, Sonya acknowledges the importance of collaborative law to facilitate child- and family-focused discussions with all parties. With a practical approach in drafting applications and agreements she is confident she will meet her client’s complex needs.
Throughout her law school career, Sonya was an active member of the Law Student Society and Law Library Advisory Committee where she held the duty of advocating for fellow classmates and being involved in the strategic planning of the Gérard V. La Forest Law Library.
Outside the Firm:
Outside the firm, Sonya enjoys taking in Newfoundland’s beautiful scenery through hiking, kayaking, and camping.
Awards and Recognition:
As a student, Sonya was awarded the Justice Barbara Baird Scholarship in Family Law.
